The Road Book Cover

Book cover for The Road by Cormack McCarthy, created as a final college project. To reflect the book’s dark and troubling themes I created the cover by hand ripping and distressing various kinds of paper and card to create a bleak landscape. I created the design on a single sheet of posterboard which was then photographed and brought into photoshop to manipulate.

I used textural and decoupage techniques to build up layers in the design that give the cover depth and used a combination of hand-cut type, hand drawn and digital letterforms for the typefaces. The overall design is striking and despite using a very limited color palette - stands out from afar.
